Book a consultationExosomes are tiny extracellular vesicles involved in communication between cells. In aesthetic skincare, exosome-containing products are an emerging area of interest. At Wedgwood Medical they are applied topically, not injected, typically following microneedling or radiofrequency microneedling where appropriate.
Microneedling creates temporary microchannels in the skin. A suitable topical product may then be applied as part of the agreed protocol. This does not mean every cosmetic serum is appropriate for use on freshly treated skin. Product selection and suitability for this use are essential.
Evidence is evolving and varies by product, source and application method. Benefits cannot be assumed from the word “exosomes” alone, and improvement following a combined session cannot automatically be attributed to the topical product. Recovery depends largely on the accompanying procedure. Redness, sensitivity and swelling may occur. Follow the supplied aftercare and use only the products recommended for your recovery.
Irritation, allergy and infection are possible. Radiofrequency microneedling has additional risks that are discussed separately. The proposed product and application method are reviewed for suitability before treatment.
