Understanding the concern

Weight management,
with your health at the centre.

Managing your weight can be complex, especially when previous approaches have been difficult to sustain. Our weight-management consultations offer a confidential space to discuss your health, experiences and goals without judgement. We begin with an individual clinical assessment to understand whether weight loss is appropriate for you and what support could help. The focus is on your long-term wellbeing and a plan that fits your circumstances.

What you may notice
  • Difficulty maintaining changes over time
  • Repeated cycles of weight loss and regain
  • Questions about how your weight affects your health
  • Changes in weight alongside changes in health or lifestyle
  • A wish for individual guidance and ongoing support
01

Why it can happen

Weight is influenced by a combination of biology, genetics, eating patterns, activity, sleep, stress and the environment around us. Some health conditions and medicines can also play a part. Understanding these factors helps put previous experiences into context and identify practical next steps. If your weight has changed unexpectedly or without an obvious explanation, medical assessment is important before starting a weight-loss programme.

02

How we assess it

The consultation explores your medical history, current medicines, previous weight-management approaches and relationship with food. We consider relevant measurements alongside your wider health, rather than relying on a number alone. Your daily routine, nutrition, activity, sleep and emotional wellbeing also matter. Further investigations or input from your GP may be appropriate. This assessment helps establish whether our service can meet your needs safely or whether another service would be better placed to support you.

03

Options we may discuss

We discuss appropriate weight-management options after assessment, including realistic changes to eating habits and physical activity, and support with maintaining those changes. Any clinical treatment decision is made individually, with an explanation of suitability, potential benefits, risks and alternatives. Booking a consultation does not guarantee a prescription or a particular treatment. Where specialist nutritional, psychological or medical care would be helpful, this can form part of the discussion.

04

Important to know

There is no single approach that suits everyone, and we do not promise a particular amount or speed of weight loss. Progress and wellbeing need review, with plans adjusted where appropriate. Please tell us about pregnancy, breastfeeding, plans to conceive, any history of an eating disorder and all medicines you take. These details help guide safe advice. The aim is appropriate healthcare and sustainable support, not pressure to reach a particular appearance.

This information is general and is not a diagnosis. New, changing, bleeding or otherwise concerning skin lesions should be assessed by an appropriate medical professional.
