Understanding the concern

Loose skin,
thoughtfully assessed.

Loose skin can appear as a softer jawline, folds beneath the chin or a crepey texture across the neck. It may develop gradually or become more noticeable after weight loss. If these changes bother you, Emma can help you understand whether the main concern is the skin itself, a loss of fullness beneath it or a combination. That distinction matters when deciding what treatment could realistically offer.

What you may notice
  • Skin that appears less firm around the lower face
  • Jowls interrupting the outline of the jaw
  • Loose folds beneath the chin or along the neck
  • Fine, crepey texture that changes with movement
  • More visible looseness after a change in weight
01

Why it can happen

Skin changes naturally over time as its supporting fibres lose resilience. Long-term sun exposure and smoking can contribute, while genetics influence how these changes develop. When underlying fullness reduces after weight loss, the skin may not fully contract to fit the new contours. Changes deeper in the face can also affect how skin sits, so an apparent skin concern may involve more than one layer.

02

How we assess it

Emma examines the area you are concerned about and considers the amount of loose skin, its texture and the tissues beneath it. She reviews your health, medicines, previous procedures and any recent weight changes. You can discuss what you would like to improve and how much recovery time or maintenance would feel manageable. The consultation is also an opportunity to identify when a non-surgical approach is unlikely to meet your expectations.

03

Options we may discuss

For suitable mild laxity, an ultrasound treatment such as Sofwave may be considered. If fine texture is the main issue, a different skin-quality approach may be more useful. Emma will explain the purpose and limits of each option rather than treating every change in the same way. Moisturising and sun protection can support skin care, but creams cannot lift sagging skin. Significant excess skin may be better assessed by a surgeon.

04

Important to know

Improvement from non-surgical skin tightening is usually modest and develops gradually. It does not remove excess skin or deliver the same result as a surgical lift. Suitability, risks, costs and likely maintenance should be clear before treatment begins. Choosing to wait, seek a specialist opinion or leave the area untreated are all reasonable outcomes of a consultation.

This information is general and is not a diagnosis. New, changing, bleeding or otherwise concerning skin lesions should be assessed by an appropriate medical professional.
