Understanding the concern

Hair loss deserves
a closer look.

A widening parting, a thinner ponytail or more hair in the shower can feel unsettling. Hair loss and thinning have many possible causes, and the right approach starts with understanding yours. Emma combines a detailed hair and scalp consultation with diagnostic blood testing where appropriate and a holistic review of your lifestyle. Together, these help build a personalised plan rather than choosing a procedure before understanding the problem.

What you may notice
  • A widening parting or more visible scalp
  • Gradual thinning at the crown or temples
  • Increased shedding when washing or brushing
  • A thinner ponytail or reduced overall density
  • Hair changes alongside scalp itching, flaking or discomfort
01

Why it can happen

Hair thinning may be hereditary, while increased shedding can follow illness, childbirth, stress or significant weight loss. Hormonal changes, thyroid conditions, iron deficiency, some medicines and restrictive eating can also contribute. Scalp inflammation and tension from tight hairstyles are other possibilities. More than one factor may be involved, and shedding can begin months after a trigger, making a careful history especially useful.

02

How we assess it

Emma reviews when the changes began, the pattern of thinning, scalp symptoms, family history, medication and previous treatment. Where clinically indicated, she offers diagnostic blood testing and tailored panels to investigate possible contributors such as low iron stores or thyroid problems. Tests are selected around your history, rather than assuming everyone needs the same panel. Her holistic lifestyle consultation explores nutrition, stress, sleep, weight changes and hair-care habits. Results are considered alongside the scalp assessment, with GP or dermatologist input where needed.

03

Options we may discuss

PRP, exosomes and polynucleotides may be discussed as part of an individual plan. PRP uses a concentrated portion of your own blood and has evidence of benefit for some types of pattern hair loss, although responses vary. Exosomes and polynucleotides are emerging approaches with more limited evidence for hair regrowth and uncertainties about long-term outcomes. Emma explains the proposed product, method, evidence and risks before you decide. Treating an underlying cause, addressing a confirmed deficiency or considering established medical treatments may be more appropriate than a scalp procedure.

04

Important to know

Hair growth is slow: assessing progress usually takes months, and regrowth is not guaranteed. Treatment schedules and maintenance depend on the diagnosis and response. Blood tests cannot identify every cause, and supplements are not a substitute for assessment. Sudden or patchy hair loss, or a painful, inflamed or scarred scalp, needs prompt medical review. A specialist referral may be the most useful next step.

This information is general and is not a diagnosis. New, changing, bleeding or otherwise concerning skin lesions should be assessed by an appropriate medical professional.
