Sofwave is a non-surgical, needle-free ultrasound treatment for skin laxity. It stimulates the skin’s own collagen to improve firmness and definition across the brow, cheeks, jawline and neck, with minimal downtime. At Wedgwood Medical, Sofwave is available in Kingston upon Thames and Mayfair, London. This guide explains cost, candidacy, comfort and timelines, so you can decide whether it belongs in your plan.
Sofwave delivers focused ultrasound energy to a precise depth in the mid-dermis, triggering collagen and elastin remodelling over the following weeks and months. The surface of the skin is cooled and protected throughout. It is not a laser, so it does not rely on pigment and is suitable for all skin tones and in any season.
It is most often chosen for early to moderate skin laxity, early jowl formation, hooded or drooping brows, and loss of firmness across the face and neck.
At Wedgwood Medical, pricing depends on the areas treated:
- Brow lift / periocular: £1,800
- Lower face and submental: £2,800
- Lower face and neck: £3,000
- Full face and neck: £3,500
0% finance over 6 months is available through PLIM, subject to approval. A complimentary Sofwave consultation is available in Kingston or Mayfair to confirm suitability and the right treatment area for you.
Sofwave works best for early to moderate skin laxity in people who want a gradual, natural-looking improvement without surgery or injectables. It is suitable for all skin tones, subject to clinical assessment.
It is less suitable where there is significant volume loss or advanced laxity, which may respond better to structural support or surgery. It may also not be the first priority if the main concern is pronounced pigmentation, active acne, or a condition that needs medical management first. Every plan begins with a clinical consultation covering health, medications, lifestyle and previous treatments, so that Sofwave is only recommended when it is the right choice.
Allow around two hours in clinic. This includes paperwork and consent, clinical photographs, and about an hour for topical anaesthetic to take effect. The treatment itself takes around 60 minutes, depending on the areas treated.
Sofwave can feel uncomfortable. The warmth builds towards the end of each short pulse and settles as soon as it finishes. Comfort options are discussed at consultation. Downtime is minimal, with most people returning to normal activities straight away.
Sofwave works with the body’s own collagen-remodelling process, so results build gradually. Visible change typically begins from around 6 weeks, with clearer improvement at 12 to 16 weeks, when a review and repeat photographs are arranged. Results often last 9 to 12 months, and many patients choose an annual treatment to maintain them. Individual response varies and results cannot be guaranteed.
- RF microneedling combines heat with microneedling and suits texture, pores and scarring alongside mild laxity.
- CO2 laser is stronger for resurfacing and wrinkles, with more downtime.
- Biostimulators such as Sculptra and Julaine stimulate collagen more diffusely and suit patients with volume loss alongside laxity. Read more about Sculptra treatment in Kingston.
- Surgery remains the most effective option for advanced laxity.
The right choice depends on the depth of laxity, volume status, skin quality and downtime tolerance, which is why every plan starts with a consultation rather than a device.
Daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50, a consistent skincare routine focused on barrier health and retinoids if tolerated, and healthy habits all support collagen. Where other treatments are planned, such as skin boosters, biostimulators or dermal filler, they are usually spaced so that each can be assessed on its own.
Minimal downtime is expected. Temporary redness, mild swelling and tenderness are rarely seen and usually settle quickly. Small welts and transient nerve irritation have been reported very rarely with energy-based devices. Results are gradual rather than immediate, Sofwave does not replace surgery, and it is not designed for dramatic change.
Is Sofwave worth it? For early to moderate skin laxity and a gradual, natural-looking improvement without surgery or downtime, many patients find it a good option. It is less effective for advanced laxity, which is why suitability is assessed at consultation first.
Does Sofwave work on jowls? It can improve early jowl formation by tightening the skin and supporting jawline definition. Results depend on individual anatomy.
Is one session enough? A single session is often the starting point, with a review at 12 to 16 weeks. Some patients then repeat annually.
Is there a payment plan? Yes, 0% finance over 6 months through PLIM, subject to approval.
